Accountants
Any Accountants out threre?

Any advice gratefully received. We've had an accountant for the last 5 years and the last invoice trebled in cost with no warning or communication. When I've asked him to explain the increases, he's had a massive hissy fit and withdrawn his services, leaving us in the lurch a bit.

Can they do this?

Services required: Year end, Ltd co. stuff, payroll (one employee) and vat returns.

Looking around freeagent looks pretty good, any experience?

Re: Accountants

I use free agent through my accountants. I pay £118 per month including VAT and they do everything for me.

Message me and I can pass you on the details if you like.

I'll do them for a grand and a pack of Skips prawn cocktail.

Best bet is to use a mid-tier firm who will be cheapish, but know their shizzle.

Re: Accountants
When's your year end - so how long have you got before you have to file your accounts. That will determine how much it's going to cost. Is the one employee you - or your partner - there's loads of cheap payroll providers or the HMRC Basic PAYE Tools app they have is very easy to use and does all of the calculations and reporting for you..

What's the business - are you a contractor or selling stuff in which case VAT is a bit more work - otherwise you should be able to do it yourself.

Freeagent is very good - but again depends upon your business. Doing most of it yourself in an Excel spreadsheet might be just as good. You'll need an accountant to file the Companies House and HMRC accounts and corporation tax return to minimise the risk of an inspection. If you've prepared much of the numbers then should be able to find someone for about £500.
